Split-Flap Boards Screensavers
The mechanical clatter of an old airport departures board, reused as a display for whatever you want on it: real RSS headlines, live sports scores, the news, current weather, generative patterns, emoji, or a message you type yourself. Every board shares the same tile-flip animation, a variable-size grid, and an optional click sound. Free and fullscreen in your browser.
Each board is built on one shared flip-tile engine: square characters riffle through random glyphs before settling on the real value, cascading across the board the way a physical split-flap display updates. Board size (rows and columns) is adjustable per saver, and a click sound can be switched on to mimic the real mechanical clatter — off by default. Content sources vary by saver: some read the site's own live pipeline feeds, some fetch directly from a public API in your browser, and a couple — the pattern board and the personal message board — need no data connection at all.
Frequently asked questions
- Is the flip animation and sound the same across all of these?
- Yes — every board in this category shares one rendering engine, so the tile-flip animation and the optional click sound behave identically everywhere; only the content differs.
- Can I change the board size?
- Yes — each board has adjustable rows and columns in its settings, so you can make a wide, narrow, tall or compact board.
- Is the sound on by default?
- No — every board defaults to silent. Turn on "Flap click sound" in settings to hear the mechanical clatter as tiles update.
- Can I show my own message?
- Yes — the Personal Message Board lets you type your own text, saved only in your browser, and displays it on the flip-tile grid.
- Is a key needed?
- No — every board in this category is key-less, reading either the site's own pipeline feeds, a public key-less API, or nothing at all.
