Road Hopper is a self-playing arcade screensaver inspired by the 1981 crossing classic. A hopper threads lanes of traffic and rides logs and turtles across a river to the home bays. It's a free, original homage, runs in your browser, and ESC exits.
How the Road Hopper screensaver works
Road Hopper is an original tribute to the road-and-river crossing classic — original art and name throughout.
A hopper plays itself, hopping cell by cell up through five lanes of traffic, timing the gaps between cars.
Across the median it must ride floating logs and diving turtles over the river — step in the water and it's back to the start.
Fill all the home bays at the top and the board resets for another crossing.
A worked example
The hopper darts between a fast blue car and a slow red truck, reaches the bank, leaps onto a drifting log, rides it past a gap, hops to a turtle, and lands safely in an open home bay as it lights up green.
Settings & tips
- It runs in attract mode — the hopper crosses on its own.
- On the river it must stay on a log or turtle, not in the water.
- It sometimes waits a beat for a safe gap before hopping.
