Live Webcam Screensaver
The Live Views screensaver rotates through a wall of curated public webcams — mountain peaks, city skylines and wide skies — each refreshed to its latest frame with a slow Ken Burns drift. You can add or replace any camera by pasting its image URL in settings. It's free, runs in your browser, and ESC exits.
How the Live Views screensaver works
The saver works from a simple list of webcams, one per line as 'Label | image URL'. It ships with a set of reliable public cameras from the foto-webcam.eu network, and you can edit the list freely in settings.
It shows each camera in turn as a full-screen image. Crucially it uses a plain image element, not a canvas, so cross-origin webcam pictures display normally without the security limits that block canvas pixel access.
Each time a camera comes up, its picture is re-requested with a cache-busting timestamp, so you see the latest frame rather than a stale one. A slow zoom-and-pan (the 'Ken Burns' effect) keeps the still image feeling alive.
If a camera is unreachable, the saver quietly skips to the next one, so a single broken link never stops the show.
A worked example
Out of the box it cycles eight Alpine and city cameras every 12 seconds with a gentle drift — Zugspitze, Munich, Innsbruck and more. To make it yours, open settings and replace the list with your favourites, for example Harbour Cam | https://…/current.jpg, one per line. Lower seconds per view for a faster slideshow, or turn off shuffle to keep them in order.

- Seconds per view sets the dwell time; shuffle randomises the order.
- Turn off Ken Burns drift if you'd rather the image sat still.
Frequently asked questions
- Are the webcams live?
- Yes. Each camera's image is re-fetched with a fresh timestamp every time it appears, so you see its most recent frame, not a cached one.
- Can I add my own webcams?
- Yes. In settings, paste any public webcam image URL as 'Label | https://…/image.jpg', one per line. The default cameras can be replaced entirely.
- Why are the default cameras mostly mountains?
- The defaults come from foto-webcam.eu, a reliable network that permits hotlinking. They're just a starting point — swap in city, beach or sky cams you prefer.
- A webcam shows a black or broken image — why?
- Public cameras go offline or change URLs. The saver skips any it can't load; update or remove that line in settings if it stays broken.
- Is this webcam screensaver free?
- Yes, free and browser-based with nothing to install. Run it fullscreen and press ESC to exit.
